reception centers in utah, smartphones and smart brides

Get organized before looking at reception centers in utahBefore you begin searching all the reception centers in Utah and other wedding vendors, be the smart bride who gets organized and then begins the wedding planning.  Wedding celebrations can become very complicated.  With your smartphone in hand, planning Utah wedding receptions can be such a breeze.  Save yourself headache and frustration from not knowing what you’ve done or need yet to do as the big day draws closer.  Stress is the last thing a bride needs on the day before her wedding or even on her wedding day!

The Wedding TO DO lists – There are many organizational apps to help with the seemingly never ending wedding tasks.  I used to just keep all my notes in “notes” but that became ridiculously long and difficult to find a particular list in mind.  My daughter introduced me to the app WunderList.  It is indeed wonderful!  It lets you prioritize, reorganize, share with others, email, and even print the list for an older person who just can’t break away from the pencil and paper.  Check out your app store.  The key is to find something that works for you.  There are many other apps just for wedding planning as well.  Find one that will work for you.  I like WunderList because you can still be organized with your other-than-wedding life plus you’ll continue to use it even after the wedding!

WunderList is one of many apps that can help you be organized and efficient. Find the best one for YOU.

You can have sub-tasks, set due dates & reminders, share, prioritize, move, print and email your information.

Separate Wedding Email Address – Another great suggestion is to create a separate email address for use only for your wedding vendors and other wedding communications.  All your many reception centers in Utah, florists, cake designers, etc. can communicate directly with that designated email address.  Add that address to your smart phone with folders and sections to hold their contact information so you don’t have to look up their information again and again as you zero in on who you choose to hire.  Over several months, you’ll be gathering all kinds of information that you won’t want to misplace and the smart phone is a perfect little file cabinet for a bride.  Remember to take photos of your favorite cake designs, the flowers you like, even the style of boutonniere you want to see on your husband. Your wedding ceremony and reception ideas will be blended to create the Utah wedding that is uniquely and perfectly you.

Photos, Photos, Photos – I find myself taking photos of products with their sizes & prices, schedules, menus, plates of foods, little girl dresses, photos in magazines, people on the street, mannequins in a window, and the list goes on. Everything is at my fingertips when I have a moment to plan and work with my budget. I can look items up and make educated decisions as to what will work for my style and my budget.

A few years ago, a friend of mine took a photo of my wedding cake topper that has been on our hutch for 28 years now! I still love it. I still love him!

Sometimes you will find yourself without your phone and an idea presents itself. I still jot it down on a receipt, scrap of paper, etc. But my advice is to quickly get the note into your phone as soon as possible, even if you simply take a photo of the note when you get your phone in hand again.

Give The Photo – Finally when your decisions are made of items you want created for your special day, you can print a 4×6 copy of particular products and leave the photo with the vendor so they know exactly what you have in mind.  Or they may appreciate a digital version instead. Remember the adage “A photo is worth a thousand words”?  Actually it was originally stated as “a photo is worth ten-thousand words” in 1927 by a Fred Bernard. The point being that your photo will help your vendor more successfully help you achieve your dream.  The smartphone now helps brides accomplish that task much easier.

Photos will help you get your wedding reception centers in utah looking just the way you want.

Important Questions to Ask Wedding Venues in Utah Either Online or in Person

Beautiful wedding venues in Utah include Ivy House Weddings

Your boyfriend popped the question and you have eagerly exclaimed “Yes!”  After the fog of excitement has lifted and possibly you have settled on the date, or several optional dates, it’s time to begin the nitty-gritty of wedding preparations.  After setting the date, the next important thing to book one of the many choices of wedding venues in Utah.  You will need to book early to ensure your chosen venue is still open for your special date.  So don’t delay the beginning of your search.

You need to choose the wedding reception centers in Utah that is right for your style, flair, and your budget.  So here are some questions that will help you in your quest.

  1. First, always ask about the availability of your wedding date.  This will save you heart ache of getting excited for a particular venue, only to discover that your date is not available.
  2. What is the capacity of the venue?  Will there be enough space if you choose to have your wedding ceremony and reception in one location?
  3. Does the venue’s ambiance match the kind of look and feel you want for your celebration?  What decorations do they provide?  What decorations would you need to add?  Can the venue supply additional decorations and can match your colors chosen?

Do you want a classic old world charm ambiance for you and your guests?
  4. Does the Utah wedding venue provide for other wedding related vendors?  Or must you use their vendors?  Do they allow your own caterers to come in or even self-catering?  Do they freely recommend vendors?  Do the venue get a commission off of those vendors they recommend? Ask the venue for photos of their caterers, florist, cake designers, and photographers.

  5. Are the venue facilities suitable for you and your guests?  Is it wheelchair accessible?  Is the bathroom easily accessible?  Does the venue have a separate bride’s room and groom’s room for changing during your event?  What kind of accommodations are available for younger children who will possibly attend your celebration?
  6. If desired, does the venue allow alcohol?  It is important that the facility holds a state liquor license if you want liquor during your wedding reception.  Turn the drinks completely over to a licensed bartender so that you and your family are not libel should alcohol problems happen at your event.
  7. What all is included in the main cost?  Know the detailed list of what the venue includes so you are not disappointed or can plan on certain items.  The details of your wedding plan are going to be very important as you proceed.

Upgraded linens and optional tableware are beautiful with our standard silver candlestick centerpiece.
  8. What kind and how much space is available?  Is there a dance floor included in the price?  Is there enough space for a band, should you wish one?
  9. Parking at reception venues can be annoying for you and the guests.  Does the venue provide close and ample parking?  Does the venue include a security guard to keep watch of activity outside the venue while you and your guests enjoy yourselves inside.
  10. What staff does the venue supply during your event?  Do they have a wedding or event planner to help you make sure everything is planned?
  11. Are there restrictions you need to know about?  Some venues do not allow for open flame candles.  You will want to know any restrictions, especially if you want something unique for your wedding.

No Regrets for Father-Daughter Dance at Utah Wedding Receptions

Father Daughter dance at wedding reception in Utah

Your Dad!  He has been the main man in your life for many years.  He was the first man to love you and the first man you loved.  If you can, don’t miss out on a special moment with the first man in your life.  The Father-Daughter dance is a tradition that creates a special moment for any loving father as he gives his little girl away to the man who has promised to be her partner for life.    For many, this dance is an important part of many Utah wedding receptions and can’t be missed.  Don’t have any regrets by not doing it.

For Sharae P., a mother in Draper, Utah, she feels that this dance is “a symbol of a father who has loved and taken care of his daughter for so many years, and now is saying his goodbyes and passing her on to a new man who will assume the duties of making sure she is loved the rest of her life.”

Carolyn G. from Salt Lake City, Utah, never had such a moment with her father but now that she has a daughter of her own, she looks back to her wedding and wishes she would have shared this tender moment between her and her daddy.  She feels this special dance is “a way to recognize that [daddy-daughter] relationship and let the father have that last moment where he is his daughter’s ‘handsome prince’ before turning her over to her husband.”

I asked my mother if she had a daddy-daughter dance with her father.  She said she didn’t even think about having one.  She didn’t have anyone help her with the planning of her celebration so it totally passed her thoughts.  She regrets not having that last dance with her dad, especially since he passed away a few years ago.

Ivy House Weddings and Atrium Weddings are two Utah wedding venues that help make dreams come true on a bride’s special day. If she dreams of having such a tender moment with her father, they have dance floors and wonderful sound system are provided to help make this moment everything she imagines.

Perfection at Utah Wedding Venues Is More Than Just Looking Perfect

As a bride plans her wedding day she strives for absolute perfection, after all, this is the day she has been waiting for her entire life. Once the ring is on her finger she begins her search for the perfect dress, flowers, cake, invitations and the most perfect of all the Utah wedding venues.  She may be so focused on every tiny detail that she forgets the most important detail of the day.  She forgets the monumental life changing event that will give her a new identity as a woman. It is on that day that she becomes a wife and begins a wonderful, exciting new life with the man she is deeply in love with.

When you are caught in the moment of planning a wedding, EVERYTHING seems important, but you will find that on your day those things are not so important after all. In all honesty, all the things you do for your wedding day will soon be forgotten by most in attendance. The invitation you so carefully picked out will most likely be thrown after it is used to find your venue. The food you chose to serve will most likely not be tasted by you because you will be in the line greeting guests and not eating. You may not notice or even have a chance to really see how your beautiful centerpieces turned out. Also, your gorgeous bouquet will seem so heavy after holding it for hours that you may wish you either didn’t have it or that it was much smaller. The bridesmaids that you so carefully chose may spend the evening extremely bored hating the dress they have been forced to wear.

Plan now to remember that on your wedding day,  you will slow down and focus on the tender moments that make your day special instead of rushing to make things look perfect. Let your Utah wedding reception centers worry about all those details.  You just enjoy the moments.  Remember the expression on your new husband’s face when he sees you in your dress for the first time. Remember the moment in the dressing room with your mother as you look in the mirror together and she tells you how beautiful you look and how proud she is. Remember that your frail grandfather was able to make it to the ceremony and the tender kiss he gave as he wished you well. Remember the pure joy you feel as you are joined to your dear husband. If you take the time to focus on the tender moments of the day, it will be the perfect day you have always dreamed of.

Exquisite Silk Flower Bridal Bouquet and Wedding Cake at Reception Centers in Utah Like Ivy House Weddings

This was one of the most unique bridal bouquets of 2012 at Ivy House Weddings, one of Western Garden’s reception centers in Utah.  The bride created her bridal bouquet herself of various silk and ribbon flowers!

Weeks in the planning and creating, it is obvious that Kristen has a real talent.  She created each individual silk flower from all types of ribbon.  The plethora of roses, hydrangeas, gallardias, dahlias, hibiscus, lily of the valley and other beautiful creations adorned this masterpiece.  She chose rich earth tones with touches of gold and silver for an elegant spray.   When she had created all the pieces, she asked a friend to arrange them into this work of art.  I would say this was a huge success and Kristen will be able to enjoy this art work in her home for years to come, a constant reminder of her and Doug’s wedding union and their celebration at Ivy House Weddings, one of Utah wedding reception centers that allow the bride to use her own florist.

The bride’s bouquet was not the only item that set the bride’s style at her wedding celebration.  She also chose to use a dear friend to create her wedding cake.  Again, it is another unique piece of art, definitely worth noting.  A delightful kindred spirit created this 3-tier delicate masterpiece.  The bride and Linda have been long time friends, traveling together on many adventures, and sharing church beliefs and interests.  The cake consisted of two-tiers on top of four white pillars upon a large round base.  The most unique attribute about this cake was the delicate pastel frosting used to decorate.  The little pink rose buds with green leaves was indeed very light and airy, giving the cake such a delicate and tender appearance.  The artist also included Lilly of the Valley along with a few white pearls to give it just a final little touch of lightness.  There was nothing heavy about this gorgeous cake.  I have not seen a cake with Lily of the Valley.  This was a very unique and soft touch.

We are finding that brides really enjoy wedding reception centers in Utah, like Ivy House Weddings at Western Gardens downtown, that allow them the freedom to choose their own cake designers and florists.  It becomes a more unique wedding celebration that reflects more of the bride’s personal style.

Saying It with Photos at Wedding Reception Centers in Utah

I do, me too! A clever photo of the bottom of the bride and groom's shoes.

This bride was very effective at expressing her style at her wedding celebration at Ivy House Weddings, one of Western Garden’s wedding reception centers in Utah.  She used several photos to demonstrate her and her beau’s personalities for their guests.  A favorite photo was one showing only the bottom of the couple’s shoes with the written words “I Do…Me Too”.  Another photo showed the couple with their hands up in the air configuring their fingers to create the word “Love”.  Very clever and definitely relayed the camaraderie this couple enjoys together.

Wedding reception center with a touch of leopard prints

Jungle green was the bride’s primary color, but she accented the Utah wedding venue with leopard prints in a throw rug for the wedding line and linen toppers for her table centerpieces.  Even the groom’s cake was decorated with the leopard motif.

Uniquely, this bride had her guests put thumbprints on a large poster with a tree drawn on it.  With different shades of green, the thumbprints became the leaves on the tree.  By the end of the reception, the tree was full of greenery wishing the newlyweds a healthy fruitful life.  Just so you know, moist wipes were provided for the guests to wipe the ink off their fingers.

Alluring photo of bride in the groom's room.

Also, can you imagine the smile on the groom’s face when he entered the groom’s room to prepare himself for the evening.  There he found on the counter, a photo of his bride staring at him and one of her high heels strategically placed by the photo.  This scene was worth a thousand words.

The bride chose our preferred cake designer Carrie’s Cakes to create her green and white masterpiece.  This is one of two cake designer partners at this Utah wedding reception center.  Magelby’s was the caterer serving sandwiches, fruits, and vegetables.  Her photographer was Kristina Bath and Videographer was Taylor Allred.  Garden Elegance was her florist.

A delicate feminine theme was woven throughout the hall.  With pastel pinks and whites and a hint of gold, green, and deeper pink, Ivy House Weddings at Western Gardens Downtown became a magical wonderland for over 300 guests to enjoy.  For easier reading, I’ll make a list of the creative ideas from which to glean for your own party at almost any of the Utah wedding reception centers.  I will begin at the first entrance to the venue and proceed throughout!

1.  Window Decals on Entrance Main doors – Ivy House granted permission to place personalized window decals representing the new couple’s initials.  With ribbons hanging from the outdoor majestic lamps, this was a nice preview as to what the guests were about to enter.  Personalized window decals of bride and groomEntrance decorations

2.  Wedding Garland – very clever and delicate touch to the entrance inside the main doors.  Created by stringing together paper & foil cupcake holders and pink and cream lace doilies.  All guests walked under the garland upon entering the main reception hall

3.  Floral Arrangements – Both windows inside the main room were adorned with floral arrangements.  A large floral arrangement in one, and delicate individual flowers in another.  A very nice touch!  Other displays of floral, photo, and trinket designs dotted the hall on various hutches and dressers.

4.  Votive Candles – On the spiral staircase leading to a romantic Romeo and Juliet balcony, the family had placed double votive candles on every step.  Romance was definitely in the air!  Candles were extinguished when the couple ascended to toss the bouquet and garter!

Beautiful Work of Art!

5.  Wedding Cake – Next was the cake alcove.  Wow!  This mother must have been an interior designer.  Between the lace woven through the arbor and so many little trinkets dangling, as a whole, the 3-tiered cake became the center of an art masterpiece.

6.  Mr. & Mrs. Mantel – The couple chose to have a formal line in front of the decorated mantel.  A Mr. and Mrs. swag  of pink pennants accented the majestic fireplace.

7.  Lattice Photo Display – After congratulating the newlyweds, guests walked past a display of photos hanging from rick-rack on a lattice divider.  Very clever and very functional as well.

The mother-in-law wrote the following review of their experience at Ivy House….    “Loved having our reception @ Ivy House.  Everything was perfect!  Jenny was great to work with.  The facility is beautiful, clean, with so many extras – beautiful centerpieces, linens, DVD & sound system.  LOVED that there were no “surprise” charges for such things!  Employees of Western Garden were so nice to pitch in & help carry in things for us.  All in all – a wonderful experience!  Bride’s room was so beautiful & so nice to have a place to put personal items & change clothes.  Only suggestion:  I know it’s the Western Gardens restrooms; they are clean and nice but if it could be a bit prettier in there with a fun plant decor!”

Witness Unique Elegant Style at Wedding Reception Centers in Utah Like Ivy House Weddings

Romantic setting at wedding receptions in UtahIvy House is one of Western Garden’s chic reception centers in Utah and the wedding reception on May 9th of this year proved so.  I attended to snap some photos of this couple’s happy celebration with two great families.  The evening was so enjoyable that I stayed almost the entire evening taking photos of nearly every aspect of the party.  This bride and mother created a beautiful touch to Ivy House that just lit up the wedding place, with lots of love, joy, and laughter.

Unique touches that I will note here about this wedding reception Utah enjoyed are as follows and I hope they can inspire you as you create that wonderland that you’ve dreamt about.

  1. This bride chose the delicate lacy feel.  This matched her delicate frame compared to the tall stature of her new husband.  Her theme of white lace was accented throughout Ivy House and the sophisticated black rod-iron fixtures and chairs of Ivy House wedding venue were complimented with this frilly touch.
  2. She then touched the sophisticated and frilly look with sunflowers that obvious reflect her personality – bright, beautiful and happy flowers.
  3. The bride’s tender last dance with her father really touched me.  There was so much love and gratitude shared between them on the dance floor.  I was blessed to catch a few of Dad’s whispers in her ear, a sweet tear in her eye, and that incredible look as Father passed his daughter on to her new husband.  What a sweet moment I shall never forget.
  4. Pulling off the garter was priceless.  See the photo of the bride.
  5. The decorated car was something I’ll never forget.  Yes, it was a beautiful silver Toyota Cruiser that was absolutely plastered beyond recognition.  The bride dropped her jaw in disbelief when she finally could see it after the sparklers.  The good part was that the friends and family had first wrapped the car first in plastic, and then decorated with syrups, cream, cherries, strawberries.  If the food was at the party, it was on the car.  The couple simply had to cut the plastic off the car and it all fell to the ground and they drove away.
  6. Family photos outside were prime.  The beautiful Ivy that was accidentally stripped from Ivy House walls during construction, has now just about filled in and offered a beautiful backdrop for the bride’s maids in yellow.  What smiles and beauty accented the Ivy House garden.

Cutting the cake at wedding reception centers in Utah  Reception Centers in Utah have tender moments with fathers and daughters!  Thank you, Dad, for helping me be who I am today!

The cutting of the cake, the sparkler send off, the food, and all was beautiful and so much fun to witness.  This couple was off to a beautiful start by having their celebration at Utah wedding reception centers like Ivy House Weddings at Western Gardens Center Downtown.

As for who-did-what at this affair, the wedding cake was brought in by Kneaders, the photographer was JacqueLynn Photography, and her beautiful sunflower arrangements were a creation of a friend that works at Flower Patch.  The food was catered by our very popular preferred caterer Utah Celebrations.  We are proud of the work they do and the value they offer at our Utah receptions to our beautiful brides.

At last night’s event, a friend of the bride in May also attended last night.  She had referred Ivy House Weddings to another friend who had their celebration last night.  The word is getting out what a wonderful Utah wedding venues are run by Western Gardens Center.

Wedding reception centers Utah's Western Gardens offers to wonderful families like these.Surely you have been to many reception centers in Utah, and if you were at Ivy House on May 5th, you were one of about 350 guests that enjoyed a beautiful celebration honoring a beautiful couple.  I loved taking photos at this festivity as I witnessed two wonderful families brought together for a joyous occasion.  There was so much love and harmony at this event.

Weeks before the wedding, the bride’s family worked tirelessly to make homemade dipped chocolates and butter-mints.  These were placed in crystal bowls and plates for guests to enjoy.  The father of the bride offered a sampling to me, and both delicacies melted in my mouth.

Decorations were simple and stunning.  Blue ribbons adorned Ivy House tall silver candlesticks and yellow rose petals lay about with the chocolates and mints.  Many photos of the bride and couple were spotted throughout Ivy House Weddings, one of a few stunning and economical wedding reception places in Utah.

Cake masterpiece by Bride's friend WhitneyThe cake was an elegant 3 tiered square cake adorned with vibrant yellow lilies and blue ribbons.  A friend of the bride created the masterpiece.  Again, the theme of yellow rose petals lay at the base.

Another dear family friend was in charge of the floral pieces for the evening, composing of the bridal bouquet, corsages, boutonnieres, cake flowers, and, of course, the scattered yellow petals.

Dave Murphy Band and singers  Happy bride and groom at Ivy House Weddings at Western Gardens Downtown

Not only did guests enjoy visual and tasty indulgences, but also live entertainment.  The father of the bride is himself a musician in a local jazz band.  One of his friends also has a band which came for all to enjoy.  The Dave Murphy band included two singers and the repertoire included everything from old popular dance songs to current popular tunes.  I was most impressed with the love the couple portrayed in their first dance.  The groom had so many tender sweet kisses for his new bride that all who viewed had no doubt that he was truly in love with his Queen.

A Wedding Reception Utah Celebrated with Love and Fun

Entrance greeters at Ivy House - one of many reception centers in UtahA beautiful wedding reception Utah will long remember took place at Ivy House Weddings at Western Gardens Downtown.  This fun vivacious couple had lots of twinkles in their eyes as they celebrated their new union. To begin the evening, guests were greeted at Ivy House entrance by two sweet family members dressed in adorable white dresses and green satin sashes. Their big smiles welcomed all to the celebration.

Guests enjoying the atmosphere at Ivy House - one of Western Garden's wedding reception centers in Utah.

The bride chose simple green and white as her celebration colors.  Simple glass vases were adorned with satin green ribbons and filled with beautiful lacy white hydrangea blossoms.  The cake also was simple yet elegant.  White with white pearls were complimented with sweet bouquet of white roses and white hydrangea blooms on each of the three tiers. The bridal bouquet rested at the base until the traditional bouquet tossing occurred later in the evening.   Elegant simple cake by Schmidts Bakery  Cutting the cake

Baseball Uniform groom's cake The only blue item in the room was the groom’s cake; a massive flat cake of a New York Yankee stripped baseball uniform shirt topped with ball cap and ball, all made with fondant icing.    It was spectacular and definitely displayed the obvious love the groom has for this baseball team.  Everyone was excited to see not only the cutting of the traditional cake, but also of the groom’s baseball cake, especially the young children.  Children waiting to cut the groom's cake  cut groom cake
